This is a virtual gallery exhibit of ~tresamie fractal works.

I know Vivian ( ~tresamie ) since 2003, I think. Without her, I probably would've never known the beauty of fractal art. In all these years, even if we never met in person, we developed a strong friendship that, from the starting point of art (fractal and 3D), evolved into something precious: now I consider her one of my best true friends.

This idea came to us I think back in 2003 or 2004 but, for one reason or another, we weren't able to realize it until now: that's great, because in these years my rendering skills improved a lot and Vivian's fractal followed the same path :)

I modelled the "art gallery" freely taking inspiration on modern art galleries I visited, and looking at some internet images for reference. As you can see, it's a very simple modelling: straight lines, minimal design and the likes. Nothing model-fancy. (I did everything, as usual, in Softimage|XSI, using Mental Ray Physical Sky shader, Photographic Exposure shader, Physical Sun, Portal Lights and tons of GI photons and FG rays and all that bla bla bla). I placed the "frames" (a sort of placeholders), then I sent to Vivian an Ambient Occlusion render and she chose in complete autonomy a selection of her works to display.

_____

So, ~tresamie's exposed works are:

:bulletblack: First panel, from left to right: :bulletblack:

"Veins of Gold"

"Best in Show - Fucsia" - on DA at [link]

"Cave Tree"

:bulletblack: Second panel: :bulletblack:

"Mother and Child" - on DA at [link]

:bulletblack: On left wall, from near to far: :bulletblack:

"Seventh Wave" - on DA at [link]

"Brilliant Days, Sleepless Nights" - on DA at [link]

"Curry"

:bulletblack: In the other hall: :bulletblack:

"On Edge"

Thanks for looking! :D

Amazing work!
So, the people in the render, are they photos placed in the scene or did you make 3D people too?
Reply
:icondoublecrash:
Doublecrash Featured By Owner Feb 10, 2010
Thank you!

They are planes with photos applied.

:icongymnart:
Gymnart Featured By Owner Feb 10, 2010  Hobbyist General Artist
Are the planes just rectangles or did you shape them before applying the photos?
Reply
:icondoublecrash:
Doublecrash Featured By Owner Feb 10, 2010
Rectangles with alpha maps for transparency. Then I had to adjust a lot the reflections and the shadows.

:icongymnart:
Gymnart Featured By Owner Feb 12, 2010  Hobbyist General Artist
alpha maps? I have to look up how to do that with Art Of Illusion (that's what I use).
Reply
:icondoublecrash:
Doublecrash Featured By Owner Feb 12, 2010
Basically, you use an alpha channel to drive transparency. In short (and in this case above), you have a plane with a photo applied and the alpha outlining the silhouette so that the rest is completely transparent.

Fantastic collaboration! I really like the gallery space you designed: clean lines, no distractions, the perfect environment to showcase ~tresamie's art. I finally get a sense of how what I see on my monitor would look in a real-world environment. The lighting is perfect, and the overall effect is extremely realistic; kudos, and congratulations on the DD; it's well-deserved. :D

Hello ! :)
It's a real pleasure to meet a R'osity Friend for me too in this place (and everywhere in fact).
But I've not produce any composition since a long time, I've upgraded Poser to ver. 7 and Vue to ver. 7 Infinite, but my computer is too old and turn in barbecue now (a little render >>> 90 hours) :(
I plan to buy a new machine (terrific machine with i975 cpu / a lot of ram / etc...) and you certainely see me soon in R'osity or here :)
I'm very impatient to come back, I've so much ideas and projects.
But another pleasure, is to see one of these ideas remastered with a great talent like yourth, that mean that there are not so bad ;)

Very friendly

Fractals actually look better once printed out, as one can imagine looking at this very believable visual, I like that middle one :deviation:
