You will find close-ups of this render clicking here. Following *Tasharene's example, I put the closeups in my scraps to show some details that might be lost in the whole image to those of you who are interested. Click here for The Age of Transition CloseUps. Thanks a lot Tash for the idea. ______________ Hi everybody! This one will be my last 3D render for a while. I feel I have reached a sort of dead point. I'm no more satisfied nor with my modeling, nor with lighting, thus I will take advantage of this period in which I don't have an adequate PC to run my loved XSI on to study further the depths of the application. I just feel I need to go a step further. I have lots of manuals and video courses to study and look, and I can't wait to learn more. ______________ This image has a bit of a story. At the beginning, I just wanted to model a teddy bear. Then, I saw the beautiful fractal by Vivian, aka ~tresamie , "In The Pink, And Blue", and immediately asked her permission to use it, like I did many times in the past with her works. But her work is - as usual - so gorgeous that I felt compelled to build a whole room around it. At the beginning I wanted to do a baby's room, then I had some fun modeling teenage things like the skateboard, and littlekiddie things like the tin duck... and it dawned on me: there is a time, in our life, when we're just suspended between childhood and the first puberal hormonic storms, and I think there has been a month or two, in the life of everyone of us, in which our room depicted just that. The Age of Transition. Child toys along with the first film posters, the Muppet Show along with the first serious novels and books... and so on. So, I ended trying to render just that. And, of course, the teddy bear (name's Fluffy, hence the lettercubes) was the worst model of the whole bunch And now some bits-and-pieces for those among you who had the good heart to read so far, LOL. The wonderful fractal on the wall, of course, is by ~tresamie (if you still don't know her works, check her gallery, and after you've been there I bet you'll owe me a favor). But also the cover of the big book on the far table is another Tresamie's fractal. The books on the shelves (they're far, I know), are Stephen King, Patrick McGrath, Janet Taylor Lisle and my personal clone of Sophie Kinsella. On the bedstand, near the lamp... er, that is my last published novel I modeled from scratch everything you can see, I mean every single object, because I desperately need to practice and develop some sort of skills (the only exception is the plant, an old model I made with Maya PaintFX a couple of years ago). Some wonderful reference pictures (for free!) I found at [link] - go take a look, it's incredibly useful. Plus, I fell in love with Dosch Industrial Design Textures (what a gift, thanks Sis!), which are used throughout the whole image. The floor texture is by (the Great) Lemog, some other textures are taken from "World Matters" DVD by SubDimension Studios. The child drawings on the walls are from the web... artists anonymous, alas! _________________ Some This was mostly an exercise in modeling and lighting. I used an infinite light for the sun (with cookies to simulate the windows), 5 no-shadow bluish fill spots for the skylight around the room, one exclusive spotlight to "glue" to the ground some objects which were desperately floating (ball, skateboard, duck, letterD etc). Rendered with Global Illumination with 250K photons with very low intensity and very high accuracy, it took 50 minutes to come out as you see it at print-size (5012x4096): no postwork or compositing whatsoever. __________________ Thanks a lot for looking and a big hug to those who read so far __________________ COPYRIGHT NOTICE © All the works and content in my gallery are under copyright law (2007-2008). Another problem is that it's not easy to figure out if this is a guy's room or a girl's room. I think the difference becomes quite clear at an early age. However, this is just my personal issue. Maybe this was deliberate on your part?
